About Commissioner Oanh Thi Tran
Prior to Commissioner Tran’s appointment to the Commission in 2023, Commissioner Tran worked as a lawyer in firms that dealt with workers’ rights, including at the Young Workers Centre. Commissioner Tran has also been a National Legal and Industrial Officer with the Textile Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia. Commissioner Tran is the first woman from a refugee background to be appointed to the Fair Work Commission.
Commissioner Tran and her family were among hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees accepted into Australia in the 1980s. In those early years Commissioner Tran grew to understand the struggles migrants, refugees and low-paid workers faced in Australia.
