Date of registration: 16 May 1905; one of the oldest organisations registered under the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009.
Elections for office positions within the organisation, for which the term of office is 4 years, are conducted by the AEC.
The organisation has 8 branches, each of them is a reporting unit for the purposes of financial reporting.
The highest deliberative body of the organisation is vested in the National Conference. There is also a National Executive. Both the National Conference and the National Executive consist of the National Officers and Delegates from each branch.
Further, each branch of the organisation is governed by a Branch Executive. The rules also make provision for District and Sub-Branch office positions and, to a lesser extent, advisory committees.
