We partner with more than 100 law firms who provide free legal advice through the Workplace Advice Service (WAS). Find out how you can become a partner and what it involves.

What our WAS partners do
WAS partners play an important role in supporting unrepresented small business owners and employees. They provide up to an hour of free advice to referred clients about:
- dismissal
- general protections
- bullying in the workplace
- workplace sexual harassment.
Why become a WAS partner
Becoming a WAS partner is an opportunity to:
- diversify your client base
- upskill your team with a variety of interesting cases
- be part of a Commonwealth Government funded community outreach program
- meet your pro bono targets
- access exclusive professional development opportunities with our Members and specialist staff
- receive our WAS quarterly newsletter, providing updates and resources.
WAS aims to promote access to justice, develop our clients' understanding of Fair Work legislation and to facilitate efficient resolution of workplace disputes.
'As a Workplace Advice Service partner, Hennings Lawyers has benefited from diversifying our clientele and the areas in which we can assist both employers and employees. The wide variety of cases offers a fantastic opportunity to become more well-rounded legal practitioners. Most of all, we value the chance to help clients to make the best decisions to resolve significant workplace issues.' Hennings Lawyers, WAS Partner.

How does it work
The referral process is:
- potential clients request assistance by applying
- our staff review and refer applications to one of our WAS partners
- our WAS partner completes a conflict check and then decides whether to accept or decline the referral.
If a referral is accepted, then our WAS partner arranges an appointment with the client to provide up to an hour of free advice. This can be in person or via phone.
If a referral is declined, our staff will refer the application to another WAS partner.
Talk to us about becoming a WAS partner by emailing us at was@fwc.gov.au or calling us on 03 9063 7428.
Requirements for partnership with WAS
Individuals employed or engaged by partner organisations who provide legal advice to eligible persons referred by WAS must hold a current legal practising certificate and be covered by professional indemnity insurance.
